Jon Murphy: new engine will 'spring surprises' for PES 2014

Fox Engine - Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

First things first, the image above has been taken from the Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes trailer, and is not a Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 screenshot.

Even though the adventures of Solid Snake and the off-field actions of Mario Balotelli could easily be compared, the two games - both published by Konami - couldn't be more far apart.

However, they do have one significant similarity that, unless you've been living under a rock for the last six months, will come as fantastic news for every Pro Evolution Soccer fan.

The two games will each include a 'spectacular' new engine; Ground Zeroes will use the Fox Engine itself, whereas PES 2014 will share the fundamental part of the engine with Kojima Productions. Konami have already confirmed they will tailor the Fox engine specifically for football games.

Based on the Fox engine, which has been built by Kojima Productions, the director of which is Hideo Kojima, current Vice President of Konami Digital Entertainment, the new engine is expected to bring an endless stretch of new possibilities to the PES series.

After arriving in Tokyo last night, finishing a gruelling 12-hour flight, European PES Team Leader Jon Murphy was able to beat the jet lag and posted the first of many (we hope) of this week's updates on the PES series' new engine:
Some very interesting concepts developing. New engine is going to spring some surprises! #pes

Although I think we're still a fair few months away from the game's official announcement, it's clear that the PES Team are preparing themselves for, probably, their biggest year since they moved on from the PS2 era.
