Another trip down memory lane - who's your favourite PES player?

Posted at 11:30 am | Monday, 5 November 2012

After last week's relaunch of our Contributor's Corner series, PES fan Rich Fay looks back at PES 5 and discusses his favourite-ever play in PES. There may be a few surprises along the way, so don't let the header fool you...

From the Godlike Adriano of PES 6 to the unbelievableness of Cristano Ronaldo on this year's title, it seems each year, we all have our own taboo player; the one who seems unstoppable at times and the one we all fear playing against.

The big names will always be terrifying for most. But for me, my favourite ever PES player isn't a name you'd probably expect to hear. He didn't score thirty-plus goals every season, and he would probably struggle to out-pace the majority of his opponents. Back in the glory days of PES 5, this player had a special talent which made him the heart of my five-man midfield; his Cantona-esque ability to create a moment of pure jubilance and excitement out of nothing at all.

His spectacular ability should never be lost in the world of football. After all, who doesn't like someone who, effortlessly, can dictate play by spreading a 30-yard ball, while also having the swagger to control a tight 1-0 lead with such wonderful passing skills?

In my Master League team - which consisted of Samuel Eto, Ronaldinho and a re-born Zinedine Zidane, it was the quiet man who spoke the loudest, not with his mouth but with his feet.

So I guess you're still wondering, who is my favourite ever player in PES? Who's the mystery man?

The series has offered me so many excellent moments over the years. Unlike its rivals, PES is the game which produces fantastic moments, involving some of the best (and some of the not-so-good) footballers, that will remain unforgettable. Like the memories, the debate will continue to live on. However, after many years of growing up with Pro Evolution Soccer, my star man is the Peruvian and ex-Newcastle maestro, Nolberto Solano.

Take a trip down memory lane, leave a comment below with YOUR favourite PES player and let's reminisce.
