Despite the obvious problems, I always find myself coming back to online PES. The feeling of scoring online is really special for me - it's a feeling that I don't get when scoring in Master League mode - or even netting offline against my mates. Call me sad, but there is nothing that compares to the feeling you get when you score a last minute winner in an online game of PES. Even so, playing a lag-free game is incredibly entertaining.
On the other hand, playing a bad game of PES online is one of the most frustrating things I've ever experienced. Ever.
There have been too many instances where there is so much lag that I literally can't play. The 2/3 second delay when you are trying to pass is a nightmare. You pretty much have to run strait at goal, hoping that your opponent doesn't tackle you. And if you reach 25 yards out, you can press shoot hoping that your player shoots before the goalkeeper takes the ball off of him!
To be fair, this doesn't happen to me that often, but it's just so painful when it does. I just want to enjoy my PES. I don't want to become a psychic gamer where "whoever can read the future most accurately, wins" - no, not for me thanks.
... Anyway, I feel the servers have improved over the last couple of years. But as always with Pro Evo, there is still room for improvement. I'm not making any unfair judgements yet, but I really hope that Konami can fix the servers so that I can enjoy playing online - without waiting to find an opponent who is based in England, and has a full connection bar.
It's an obvious desire, but is it a realistic and fair wish from me?
